IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute (IVL) is an independent, non-profit research institute with a broad environmental profile. IVL combines applied research and development with a close collaboration between the business and public sectors and works actively across the entire area of sustainability. With around 400 employees, IVL is a leading institute for applied environmental research and consultancy services in Sweden.
The INSOIL team at IVL is coordinated by Associate Professor Emma Strömberg, Senior Researcher in Polymeric Materials at IVL’s main office in Stockholm. Emma’s work focuses on environmental interactions of polymeric materials, characterization of conventional and biobased materials, and sustainable solutions for material design and waste management.
The team includes Maja Halling, MSc in Environmental Science and Project Manager, who is temporarily stepping in as lead for Work Package 6 during the parental leave of Dr. Rosella Telaretti Leggieri expert Chemical Science and Engineering, Fibre and Polymer Science, the former WP6 lead. Maja oversees coordination, reporting, and SafeandSustainablebyDesign activities. Dr. Rosella has played a central role in establishing the methodological foundation for INSOIL’s SSbD and MCDA approach.
Additional specialists include Dr. Asa Motiei, Researcher in material safety and risk assessment; Maria Hernández Leal, Specialist in technoeconomic assessment; and Josefine Kjaer Helgstrand, Researcher focusing on social life cycle assessment and stakeholder analysis. Dr. Tomas Rydberg, Senior Researcher in environmental systems analysis, contributing expertise in life cycle assessment and sustainability modelling.
Dr. Jutta Hildenbrand, Senior LCA Specialist. Dr. Ziye Zheng, Insilico and QSAR Specialist, contributes advanced modelling related to biodegradation behaviour and environmental safety assessment.
Together, the IVL INSOIL team combines polymer science, sustainability assessment, advanced modelling, and systems analysis to support the development of safe and sustainable soil-degradable material solutions.
